Uchali Lake is the most attractive tourist destination in the valley. Sakesar, the highest mountain of the Salt Range at 1,522 metres (4,993 ft), looms over the lake. Due to its saline water, the lake is lifeless but offers a pictorial landscape. The water of Lake Uchali is salty, and taking a bath in such water is not healthy.
Still, people who have certain skin conditions may recover. Boats are also available for boating. Uchali Lake attracts hundreds of migratory birds each year and is ideal for bird watchers.
This lake is on IUCN’s red list. Hunting is not allowed near Uchali Lake. Local people believe that the beauty of the lake is decreasing due to negligence. The budget is almost non-existent. Uchali Lake is the biggest salt lake in the soon valley. This lake is beside mountains and can also be considered an introduction to Soon Valley.
If you are more of a visual person, then please watch the following video, which summarizes my trip of Uchali Lake:
Whether anybody has a passion for traveling or not, but he has heard about the areas like Ziarat, Murree, Naran, and Kaghan. Thousands of tourists visit these areas annually. On the other side, there are many tourist spots in Pakistan with similar features but not explored yet. One of them is Uchali Lake at Soon Sakesar Valley.
I planned a tour to visit different areas of Soon Valley, and Uchali Lake was on this list. This lake is the most significant salt lake present in the soon valley. This lake is 5000 feet above sea level. As the water of this lake is salty, no living exists in it.
Importance of Uchali Lake
Due to no proper drainage system in the area, this lake came into existence. The people also take a bath in it to remove their skin diseases. The water level of Uchali Lake heavily depends on rainwater. It is also one of the lakes of the salt range where migratory birds come from Siberia.
After covering 4500 kilometers of distance, the birds choose this area to live in. During winter, the Siberian ducks come here. This lake is not only a good tourist and family spot, but a boating facility is also available here. Families often visit this lake on weekends.
If anyone is interested in cycling, one can easily avail of the facility to ride on the track between the lake. In the past few months, tourism has boosted the area. TDCP has also taken some steps to promote tourism here. A road from Uchali Lake leads towards PAF base on Sakesar Top.
The highest mountain of the Potohar range is also situated here. It is the only point of the salt range, which receives annual snowfall. There are specific points in the PAF base where one can see amazing views of Uchali Lake.
After watching the views, one can easily guess that the people of this area depend heavily on agriculture and farming. They also prefer to do the job of the Pak Army. In winter, wheat, whereas vegetables are cash crops of summer.
After reaching the PAF Sakesar Base, one can easily view different valley points. This Base provides an aerial view of the area and includes one olive garden and a museum. A radar system is a part of the museum used during the wars with India. I recommend that whenever you visit this valley, visit this lake, a future tourist destination.
How To Reach Uchali Lake
This lake is at a distance of 325 kilometers from Lahore while adopting the M2. At the same time, the distance of this Lake from Islamabad is only 214 Kilometers. It is 20 kilometers from Khabeki Lake, and the location is available on Google Maps. The roads are often better compared to the past.
Hopefully, this blog will inspire you to visit Uchali Lake. Also, if you have any questions on Punjab or my experience traveling on a bicycle/motorbike, please comment below or email me. I’ll try to reply to you as soon as possible.
